Celebrate National Relaxation Day on August 15th! No matter who you are, a little R&R is an important health consideration that can help you focus on day-to-day tasks. Believe it or not, it is scientifically proven that plants can help you relax just by sharing your physical space! If you’re plant nerds like us, check out this study released by NASA on the health benefits of plants: https://ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/19930073077.

If reading scientific studies isn’t relaxing to you, don’t worry, we can sum it up! Basically, the study found that plants can purify the air we breathe in our interior spaces by taking toxins from the air, processing them, and incorporating them into their own cellular make-up! How cool are plants? We suggest taking some time on National Relaxation Day (and every day) to relax with your plants. Depending on your personality, you may find different outlets relaxing. To get the ball rolling, we have a list of ideas of how to relax with plants for plant lovers of all kinds.

For the explorers…

Visit a nearby park or botanical garden to discover new plants. There are all kinds of plant-identifying apps available to help you if there aren’t signs labeling the plants. Take pictures and share your adventure with your friends on social media!

For the active…

Even runners, gymnasts, and ballers need a form of relaxation. Try a yoga session amidst your interior plant oasis or an outdoor landscape to immerse yourself in the calming effects of nature.

For the collectors…

Visit a local HEB to add another plant or two to your collection. Or, if you already feel overrun with things that grow, search your area for antique malls, flea markets, or estate sales to treasure hunt for one-of-a-kind containers and stands for your plants.

For the crafters…

DIY-not? Search Pinterest for a fun DIY plant project like pot painting, macrame, or terrariums. There are countless ways for crafters to combine their love of plants with their love of crafting.

For the loungers…

Set a timer and take a mini stay-cation in your plant oasis, enjoying music, a good book, or an engaging podcast. Add a few pillows and you’re set! Enough said.

For the organizers…

Rearrange a plant shelf or two. Set aside time to take inventory of your plants. Even dusting the leaves can be therapeutic! Rearranging your plants not only refreshes your interior design but also provides the care your plants need. A quick rotation, lighting upgrade, or quick dust of the leaves here and there can help you and your plants thrive!

For the artists…

What do you see when you look at a flower, leaf, or tree? Artists are capable of capturing the unique beauty of plants. Try your hand at sketching or painting a landscape or potted plant. Or, get creative and try another art medium! Plants can be incorporated into art in countless ways.

For the foodies…

Dine alfresco, enjoying the outdoor flora and fauna! If you don’t have a local restaurant with outdoor seating, pack a picnic and find a spot to sip and sup. Did we mention that your favorite bubbly is made from plants? That’s the ultimate relaxation.

No matter your escape, plants can become a part of a daily relaxation routine. Find your passion and learn how to relax with plants. You won’t regret it!
